PRIORITY AREAS FOR EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

 

CALL FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS

 

 

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) is a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) which was established in 1988 by an Enabling Decree No. 53 (Now Act 53) has one of its core mandates to encourage, promote and coordinate educational research in Nigeria.  Based on the recently concluded Policy and Research Dialogue for Educational Development, the Council has identified broad areas of research priorities.  The Council would be pleased to receive research proposals from Institutions, Research Consulting Bodies and individual researchers.

 

Submissions are welcome on any of the following priority areas:

 

Small Scale Research

i.                   Funding of education at all levels of education.

ii.                 Drug Abuse problems in schools.

iii.               Cultism in schools.

iv.               Educational Imbalance:  Regional disparity, Gender disparity, etc.

v.                 Unemployment crisis:  Issues, implications for and impact on the educational system.

vi.               Mother Tongue Education:  Successes, failures and advances.

vii.             Remedial School Education:  Issues and concerns.

 

Medium Scale Research

i.                   Use of technology in educational enterprise.

ii.                 Science, Technology and Mathematics (STM) education: Issues and challenges.

iii.               Education in conflict situations.

iv.               Peace Education and conflict resolution.

 

Large Scale Research

 

i.                   Failure of implementing Educational Policies and Programmes:

a.    Equity and Access

b.   Nomads, Migrant fisher-folks and farmers including the special needs.

c.    Assessment of Learning outcomes.

 

ii.                 Teacher Education Programmes in Nigeria:

a.    Policy and Administration.

b.   Teacher Preparation, Availability, Distribution and Retention.

 

iii.               Curriculum Issues:

a.    Content overload, functionality and relevance; Comparative curriculum studies, etc.

b.   Theory and gaps in Tertiary Education.

 

iv.               Admission Policies:  Issues and Problems.

 

v.                 Quality of Graduates from Nigerian Schools.
